We're so glad

If depression has made you feel like you've tried everything, there is a path forward you may not have considered yet. TMS therapy offers a non-invasive, FDA-cleared option right here in Worthington — and we're here to walk it with you.
About Us
A different kind of
depression care
Optimum TMS was founded on a simple belief: that people who haven't found relief through medication deserve a compassionate, evidence-based alternative. We are a Worthington-based practice dedicated to Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy — a treatment that uses targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate the brain regions involved in mood regulation.
Our approach is grounded in clinical research and shaped by real human experience. We meet patients where they are, explain things clearly, and never rush the process. Because healing isn't a race — and it shouldn't feel like one.
Our Treatment
What is TMS
and who is it for?
Major Depressive Disorder
TMS is FDA-cleared for adults with MDD who have not found adequate relief from prescription antidepressants. It targets the prefrontal cortex — the area of the brain that regulates mood.
Anxiety & OCD
TMS is also FDA-cleared for obsessive-compulsive disorder and is being studied for anxiety conditions. Many patients report meaningful improvements in both mood and anxiety symptoms.
Treatment-Resistant Depression
When multiple medications haven't worked, TMS offers a clinically validated next step. Studies show significant response rates in patients who've tried several antidepressants without success.
How It Works
During a TMS session, you sit comfortably in a chair while a magnetic coil is placed against your scalp. The device delivers focused magnetic pulses — similar to an MRI — that stimulate nerve cells in the targeted brain region. Each session lasts about 15 to 30 minutes. You remain fully awake and can return to your normal activities immediately afterward. Most patients complete a course of 25 to 36 sessions over several weeks.
- Non-invasive — no anesthesia or surgery
- You drive yourself to and from each session
- Generally well-tolerated with minimal side effects
- Many insurance plans cover TMS therapy

Common Questions
Things we're
often asked
Most major insurance plans, including Medicare, cover TMS therapy for treatment-resistant depression. We encourage you to call us — we'll verify your benefits and explain your coverage before you begin treatment, so there are no surprises.
Most patients describe the sensation as a tapping or clicking on the scalp. It's not painful, though some people feel mild discomfort or a headache during the first few sessions — this typically fades as your body adjusts. We work with you to keep you comfortable throughout.
Each session lasts about 15 to 30 minutes. A full course typically involves 25 to 36 sessions, scheduled five days a week over approximately 6 to 9 weeks. Most patients can drive themselves to each appointment and resume their normal activities right after.
TMS is generally well-tolerated. The most common side effects are mild headache or scalp discomfort during the first week, which usually resolves on its own. Serious side effects are rare. We'll discuss risks and benefits thoroughly during your consultation.
TMS is designed for adults with depression who haven't found relief from medication. It may not be suitable for everyone — for example, those with certain types of metal implants or a history of seizures. The best way to know is to schedule a consultation, and we'll help you decide together.
